April 16, 2012 /EIN Presswire/ — On March 31, 2012, Dr. Tae Yun Kim was given a lifetime humanitarian award by the Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame. The award was provided in recognition of the many years of service Dr. Tae Yun Kim has provided to needy children and adults, both in her California community and around the world.
Dr. Tae Yun Kim had been recognized by the Multi-Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame in 2002, as recognition of the work she’s done on behalf of the martial arts. At her Bay Area martial arts academy, Dr. Tae Yun Kim teaches a form of martial art known as Jung SuWon. It’s a form that Dr. Tae Yun Kim created, and has taught to hundreds of students, including many who were disabled and were told that they could never learn martial arts.
This current award goes beyond a recognition of Dr. Tae Yun Kim’s contributions to the world of sport. Instead, this award focuses on the many philanthropic activities Dr. Tae Yun Kim has engaged in throughout the years, including:
- An annual birthday dinner, in which Dr. Tae Yun Kim serves dinner to the homeless at a local shelter and encourages her students and friends to donate to the shelter in lieu of gifts.
- Multiple fundraisers for the Make A Wish Foundation and the Save the Children Foundation.
- Participation in the Relay for Life.
- Annual Christmas toy drive for children.
In addition, Dr. Tae Yun Kim is known as a remarkable mentor for young and vulnerable children. She seems to draw in children from difficult backgrounds, and she encourages these children to truly think about their goals and tap into the inner power they’ll need in order to reach those goals. Taking classes in the Jung SuWon method can be helpful, but sometimes, these children speak of Dr. Tae Yun Kim in reverent tones, discussing her personal power and her overwhelming belief in her mantra: “He can do. She can do. Why not me?” For vulnerable children, this message of hope can resonate, and it can translate into meaningful benefits that could be felt for years to come.
At the awards ceremony, Dr. Tae Yun Kim treated the crowd to one of her trademark rousing speeches, including songs, anecdotes and examples from her life. It was quite a show, and photos from the event show that participants were on their feet when the speech was over.
The Multi-Ethnic Hall of Fame is a nonprofit organization that strives to provide young, less fortunate people with the opportunity to gain exposure to positive life influences. Proceeds from the organization’s various activities pay for after-school intervention seminars.
